Vladymyr Selivanov was born and raised in Kiev. He graduated from Kiev Institute of Decorative and Applied Art and Design. For 8 years he was engaged in graphic design, creative advertising, publishing, branding; was in charge of advertising agency (ArtHouse, Kiev). He was a chief editor of V&V Arts magazine focused on creative ads. But over all these years painting remained to be his major calling, although the experience in advertising images development has left its imprint on evolution of Vladymyr’s artistic language: there came drive for using succinct, laconic images, turning to symbolism, synthesis of painting genres, graphic arts and design. Another experience that has exerted influence upon Vladymyr’s oeuvre was that of martial arts and yoga. These practices appeared to be the first conscious experience of self-cognition. His fancy for martial arts turned into professional activity: teaching of combat-kendo and delivery of training sessions on dealing with aggression. This kind of activity has promoted the development of depth and totalness in his works.
The continued interest in self-understanding practices has facilitated his decision on learning a new profession – psychotherapy. Having completed the training, Vladymyr has received qualification of analytical psychologist (gestalt-approach, Moscow Gestalt Institute) and launched a psychological center where he has been practicing psychotherapy and counselling.
