Naive & Folk
Eternal Time. Paper, oil (brush).
Features a large watch as a reminder that we have no control over time, that we are enslaved by time. The sandglass speaks of the passing of life in whose flow we disappear like sand – to rise again, as the sun also rises over the earth with the gift of new life. The Milky Way and myriads of stars in the background symbolize our life which is but a tiny little star on its never ending way to the unknown. Rerich's Banner (three encircled red discs), which he brought from Tibet, calls for peace in the world, for there can be no life nor progress without peace. On the left are the craters on the surface of an unknown planet. It is dead, because there is no life on it. The painting speaks of life possible only when there is peace. Life is very short, and there is a lot to do if one wishes to leave a trace in history that will not be buried by the flowing sands of time.
